The Peoples Democratic Party leadership says the party remains united despite public disagreements, dismissing claims of factions ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The assurance came from the Deputy National Chairman South, Dr Daniel Woyengikuro, during an event in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State.
He said the issues within the party are normal internal disagreements and not a split, insisting that the PDP still operates under one recognised leadership that emerged from its Ibadan convention. According to him, internal debates are common in large political families and do not amount to division.

Woyengikuro also addressed speculations that Governors Seyi Makinde of Oyo State and Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State are positioning for the 2027 presidential race. He described such claims as unfounded, saying neither governor has declared any ambition for the presidency.
On recent defections of some PDP governors to the ruling All Progressives Congress, he said their exit would not weaken the party’s chances in 2027. He argued that electoral victories are decided by voters, not governors, recalling that parties without governors have still recorded strong performances in past elections.

He added that the PDP is open to working with other opposition parties, including the African Democratic Congress, to challenge the APC. According to him, opposition parties share a common goal of offering Nigerians an alternative government amid economic hardship.
Woyengikuro expressed confidence that Nigerians would vote based on their interests rather than money in the next election. He said rising poverty and public dissatisfaction would shape voter choices, adding that the PDP remains focused on rebuilding and reclaiming power in 2027.
