PDP Leadership Claims Spark Fresh Confusion

A fresh wave of confusion has hit the Peoples Democratic Party after a statement dismissed claims that a new national chairman had emerged from a convention reportedly held in Ibadan on November 16.

The party insisted that no such gathering took place and that no national officers could have legally come out of it.

The rebuttal explained that the PDP could not have held a convention because two court orders remain in force, restricting any such activity until ongoing legal matters are resolved. These rulings, which have not been set aside, mean any attempt to install new leaders goes against the law.

The statement also rejected the circulation of expulsion certificates said to have been issued to Nyesom Wike and others. It described the documents as political theatrics, arguing that no one can be removed from a convention that never occurred or by leaders who lack legal recognition.

According to the message, the party can only be strengthened through lawful processes that respect court directives and uphold its constitution. It warned that rebuilding the PDP through shortcuts or power grabs would only weaken the organisation.

The party maintained that it remains strong but must be shielded from attempts to impose illegal structures or decisions. It stressed that the facts are unchanged: no convention was held, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki is not the national chairman, and the reported expulsions have no legal standing.

Members across Edo State, the country, and beyond were urged to ignore the claims and remain committed to defending the party’s constitution and values.
