PDP Awaits Official Word From Adeleke

The PDP leadership in Abuja moved on Tuesday to address the debate around Governor Ademola Adeleke’s reported exit from the party.

The National Working Committee met to review recent developments and confirmed that no formal resignation letter has reached the party’s headquarters.

The update followed growing speculation after Adeleke’s departure circulated online. Factional chairman Kabiru Turaki said the PDP only learned of the claim through media platforms and is still waiting for an official notice. He noted that the governor has the right to stay or leave but added that the party can only act based on proper communication.

The committee reviewed the list of aspirants for the Osun governorship ticket and maintained that Adeleke’s name remains on the roster until the party receives confirmed information from its officials at the primary venue. Turaki said the PDP will rely on the final report to know whether the governor withdrew or stayed in the race.

He also spoke on defections within the party, saying PDP’s strength rests with its supporters rather than officeholders who decide to leave. According to him, the grassroots base in many states remains firm despite movements by past or present governors.

The NWC meeting also covered the congresses held in Osun to elect ad hoc delegates and preparations for the upcoming local government polls in Anambra. Turaki said the party expects a strong showing and is reviewing all processes to avoid administrative lapses. He added that former governors nominated for ambassadorial roles by President Tinubu have yet to notify the PDP of their new status.

Turaki used the briefing to comment on the country’s worsening security climate, urging the federal government to overhaul the system. He argued that governors cannot be seen as chief security officers when they have no real command over security agencies.

Meanwhile, Adebayo Olugbenga Adedamola emerged as the PDP governorship candidate for the 2026 Osun election after scoring 919 votes in the primary held at the Adolak Hall in Osogbo.
