PDP Sends Expulsion Papers To Top Members

The PDP leadership in Abuja moved on Monday to remove 11 prominent politicians from its fold as the party braces for the battles ahead of the 2027 elections.

The National Working Committee met to review its internal affairs and confirmed that expulsion notices had already been dispatched to the affected members.

The decision followed months of tension within the party. National Chairman Kabiru Turaki said the review session looked at ongoing primaries, legal disputes, and handover records from the past leadership team. He explained that the expelled members, including Nyesom Wike, Ayodele Fayose, Samuel Anyanwu, Umaru Bature and Dan Orbih, had already received their certificates through courier services.

The party leadership informed key institutions such as INEC, the police and security agencies that the expelled politicians were no longer part of the PDP. It also warned the public that anyone engaging the removed members under the PDP banner was doing so without the party’s backing. Turaki insisted the party would not allow prolonged internal battles to continue ahead of the next election cycle.

The review also covered the PDP congresses conducted in Osun State to choose ad hoc delegates. Turaki said the Osun governorship primary was ongoing and that Senator Ademola Adeleke remained on the list of aspirants. He noted that the party had not received any official resignation letter from the governor, despite claims circulating online.

During the briefing, Turaki spoke about the party’s position on national security, saying Nigerians no longer felt safe in daily life. He argued that governors could not carry the title of chief security officers when they lacked control over security agencies. He also gave updates on legal cases involving the party and said the new leadership was working through handover documents to avoid administrative gaps.

The PDP also reacted to President Tinubu’s reported role in offering asylum to Guinea-Bissau opposition candidate Fernando Dia Da Costa. The party said the intervention supported peace in West Africa but argued that the President must apply the same democratic values at home. It accused actors within the ruling party of putting pressure on elected officials and sponsoring internal conflict in opposition groups.

The PDP said Nigeria’s political space must remain open and competitive, warning that the country could drift toward a one-party structure if the trend continued. It urged the President to act quickly and show the same commitment to democracy within Nigeria as he claims abroad.
