Sacked Enugu APC EXCO Rejects Dissolution, Orders Members To Ignore Caretaker Team

The dissolved Enugu State Executive Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has rejected its removal by the party’s National Working Committee (NWC), describing the action as illegal and unconstitutional.

In a statement signed by members of the 40-man executive, the group insisted it was duly elected in line with the APC Constitution (2022 as amended) and accused the NWC of overstepping its powers.

The exco said it was never accused of any misconduct or violation that could justify its dissolution. Quoting Articles 21.1 to 21.3 of the party’s constitution, the group argued that only the National Executive Committee (NEC), acting on a recommendation from the Zonal Executive Committee, could discipline or dissolve a state executive.

“The purported dissolution by the NWC amounts to a gross overreach,” the statement read. “The Enugu State Executive Committee has neither disobeyed any directive nor engaged in any act of indiscipline.”

The sacked officials also rejected the appointment of a seven-member caretaker committee led by Ben Nwoye, claiming that several of those named were no longer in good standing with the party — with some allegedly suspended for anti-party activities and others said to have resigned earlier.

They directed all APC officials at the state, local government, and ward levels to remain in office and continue their duties, instructing members to disregard the caretaker committee.

“All members of the APC in Enugu State are hereby instructed to ignore any caretaker arrangement,” the statement added. “Those behind it lack the constitutional authority to issue such directives.”

The crisis within the Enugu chapter of the APC deepened after the NWC’s October 9 decision to dissolve the state executive and install an interim leadership to oversee the party’s affairs ahead of expected political realignments in the state.
