Wike Warns Abuja Residents Against Voting Past Leaders In 2027

Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike has urged residents of Abuja not to vote back politicians who failed to deliver when they previously held power.

He said the current administration under President Bola Tinubu is transforming the FCT with visible projects that are improving lives.

Wike gave the warning on Tuesday during the flag-off of the rehabilitation of the Old Keffi Road, a 15-kilometre route connecting Kado Village to Dei-Dei Junction. He described the project as another promise fulfilled by President Tinubu and proof of his commitment to infrastructure renewal across the territory.

He said the road rehabilitation is a direct response to the demands of traders and residents who rely on the corridor for daily movement and commerce. The minister explained that the initiative forms part of the emergency infrastructure programme approved by the president in 2023 to address years of neglect in key areas of the capital.

Wike told the crowd that Abuja had never seen such extensive infrastructure projects happening simultaneously. He announced that 27 more projects would be launched in the coming days, covering roads, schools, and urban upgrades across the FCT.

According to him, the current government is showing real results, unlike previous administrations that failed despite multiple opportunities. He urged residents not to be misled by politicians making new promises after failing in the past.

The Old Keffi Road project, being handled by Lubrik Construction Company, is expected to improve transport flow and support local businesses along the route. Wike directed the contractor to employ young people, women, and artisans from the surrounding communities to create jobs during the project’s execution.

He also disclosed that the FCT administration has awarded contracts for the renovation of Government Secondary School, Dei-Dei, and is currently constructing 73 other schools across the territory, with more projects planned.

FCT Minister of State Dr Mariya Mahmoud, in her remarks, commended President Tinubu for supporting projects that directly impact residents. She said the Old Keffi Road serves thousands of commuters daily and that its rehabilitation would enhance safety, reduce travel time, and boost economic activity.

She assured residents that the government will sustain the pace of development and continue prioritising projects that deliver tangible benefits to communities across Abuja.
