Dr Ali Kiyawa NNPP Wins Bagwai Shanono By Election In Kano

The New Nigeria Peoples Party has won the Bagwai/Shanono State Assembly by-election in Kano State.

The Returning Officer, Professor Hassan Shitu, declared the result at about 12:36 am, announcing Dr Ali Kiyawa as the winner with 16,198 votes.

The contest was a two-way race between the NNPP and the All Progressives Congress. Kiyawa secured a clear lead over the APC candidate, Ahmad Kadamu, who finished with 5,347 votes. The outcome confirmed NNPP’s strength in the constituency and added to its tally in the Kano State House of Assembly.

The by-election drew attention after tension rose during the collation process. Some NNPP leaders staged a sit-in at the INEC office in Kano, raising concerns that there were moves to tamper with the Ghari/Tsanyawa constituency by-election. They insisted on staying at the office until the official results were released.

Despite the concerns, the electoral commission eventually concluded the process and declared Kiyawa winner. The victory strengthens NNPP’s position in Kano politics, as the party continues to play a central role in the state’s political scene.
