Ekiti State Governor Oyebanji Declares Second Term Bid

Governor Biodun Oyebanji has officially announced that he will seek re-election as governor of Ekiti State.

The declaration was made during a meeting with members of the All Progressives Congress Central Working Committee held on Monday at the party’s secretariat in Ado-Ekiti.

The governor said he took the decision after receiving support and encouragement from across the state. According to him, traditional rulers, civil servants, professional groups, drivers’ unions, market women, and political leaders from various backgrounds urged him to continue in office. He said their backing gave him the confidence to return for a second term.

Oyebanji said he wants to build on the progress already made during his first term. He explained that his administration has started projects and reforms that need more time to fully take shape. He added that returning to office would give him the chance to complete what he started.

During the meeting, the governor expressed gratitude to the party leaders and members for standing by him since he assumed office. He thanked them for their patience and unity and said he would continue to serve them with humility and respect. He also acknowledged the support of President Bola Tinubu, who he said has been helping Ekiti State grow through national policies.

Oyebanji used the occasion to address concerns about internal problems within the APC in Ekiti. He dismissed claims of division in the party and said the leadership remained intact, with former Governors Niyi Adebayo and Kayode Fayemi still playing key roles. He called for unity ahead of the 2026 governorship election.

He urged citizens of Ekiti State to prepare for the coming election by getting their Permanent Voter Cards. He also encouraged other aspirants to feel free to contest, saying the party believes in fairness and internal democracy.

The declaration was well received by those in attendance, who applauded the governor’s leadership style. The APC State Chairman, Sola Elesin, praised Oyebanji for his performance, calling him a leader who listens and brings people together.

Also present at the meeting were Deputy Governor Monisade Afuye, House of Assembly Speaker Adeoye Aribasoye, Secretary to the State Government Habibat Adubiaro, Chief of Staff Niyi Adebayo, and Special Adviser on Political Matters Jide Awe.
