ADC kickback as APC Declares No Vacancy in Aso Rock

Tension is rising ahead of the 2027 general elections as the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has openly disagreed with the All Progressives Congress (APC) over comments made by its national chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, declaring there would be no room for new contenders in the Presidential Villa come 2027.

The reaction from the ADC followed Yilwatda’s remark, which many see as an attempt to shut the door on democratic competition before the race even begins. The ADC, in a strongly-worded statement, warned that such comments were out of place in a democracy where the people have the right to choose their leaders through elections, not through political declarations.

According to the ADC, the presidency is not a family inheritance or a position that can be reserved. It is a national duty given by citizens and must be earned based on trust, delivery, and performance. The party stressed that Nigeria’s democratic system allows the people to decide who leads them, and any suggestion that there is no room for challengers in 2027 insults the intelligence of voters and dismisses their power.

The opposition party believes that the APC’s confidence comes from fear of losing public support due to the worsening conditions in the country. It pointed to growing frustration among citizens over hunger, insecurity, poor infrastructure, and economic hardship. The ADC noted that most Nigerians are waiting eagerly to vote in new leadership if things do not improve.

It also argued that President Bola Tinubu cannot automatically retain his seat without facing scrutiny from the people. The ruling party, the ADC said, must be ready to defend its record when the time comes. The performance of the administration, it said, will be judged based on how well it tackled unemployment, improved security, reduced poverty, ensured steady power supply, and delivered justice across board.

The ADC said Nigerians are watching closely and will base their decision on real results, not political slogans. The party accused the APC of ignoring the daily struggles of citizens while trying to control the narrative ahead of the polls. It warned that voters who have suffered the impact of the country’s economic decline will not forget what they have been through.

As the countdown to 2027 begins, the ADC is calling on Nigerians to remain alert and use their votes wisely. The party insists that no one can block the democratic process and that every political office, including the presidency, must remain open to contest when the time comes. It said any attempt to shut the door two years before the election is not only premature but also unfair to millions of citizens who are looking forward to change.

The disagreement between both parties is a clear sign that the political atmosphere will become more intense as 2027 approaches. For now, the ADC has made its position known—it will not accept any narrative that seeks to deny Nigerians their right to choose who leads them.
