Ooni Mourns Olubadan Says Yoruba Lost A Rare Leader

The passing of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, has drawn a wave of sorrow across Yorubaland.

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has joined others in mourning the late monarch, describing the loss as deeply painful for the Oduduwa people.

As the permanent chairman of the Southern Nigeria Traditional Rulers Council, the Ooni said the late Olubadan was a voice of calm and reason in inter-royal matters, known for his wisdom, patience, and commitment to peace in Ibadan and beyond.

The late monarch, who was given the staff of office in July 2024 under Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration, was remembered for his lifelong service and humility. Those close to the royal circle say his dedication to the unity of Yoruba traditional rulers left a lasting impression during his brief time on the throne.
