The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has said Oyo State Governor and Allied Peoples Movement (APM) presidential candidate, Seyi Makinde, is qualified to become President of Nigeria.

Obi made the statement on Monday while attending the inauguration of Makinde’s presidential campaign office in Abuja.

The NDC candidate said he was prepared to work with any candidate who emerges victorious in the 2027 presidential election, provided the process is free, fair and credible.
Obi said his presence at the event was driven by his desire for political unity and a better Nigeria, rather than personal or political desperation.
He said politicians should put aside their differences and work together to address the economic difficulties facing Nigerians, particularly hunger and poverty.

According to him, the 2027 election should give Nigerians the opportunity to freely decide who should lead the country, while all political actors should be prepared to support efforts to rebuild Nigeria after the election.
Obi also called for a change in the way politics is practised in the country, saying political disagreements should not prevent leaders from cooperating on issues affecting citizens.
He said politicians should focus their disagreements on finding solutions to hunger, poverty and other challenges confronting Nigerians.
The former Anambra State governor further called for a Nigeria where citizens can achieve their ambitions based on merit and hard work, regardless of their family background or political connections.
Obi said his attendance at Makinde’s campaign office inauguration was also intended to demonstrate solidarity and promote cooperation among political actors ahead of the 2027 general election.
