Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has claimed that former Rivers State governor and African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential running mate, Rotimi Amaechi, may call on his supporters to boycott the 2027 presidential election.

Wike made the claim on Saturday while speaking at a grand reception organised in his honour in Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State.

According to the minister, Amaechi could make such a call before 11am on election day if he realises that he is unable to defeat the political group backing Wike in the state.
Wike said he believed the former governor would struggle to secure victory even in his home area of Ubima, suggesting that his political support in Rivers State had weakened.

He also dismissed the possibility of Amaechi receiving the level of security presence he allegedly enjoyed during his previous political activities in the state.
Wike accused Amaechi of previously moving around with large numbers of soldiers and police officers, which he said created fear and intimidation among residents.
The FCT minister said the situation would be different during the 2027 election, claiming that Amaechi would have to face voters without the alleged security presence.
Wike’s comments come as political activities ahead of the 2027 general election continue to intensify, with major political figures positioning themselves and their supporters across Rivers State.
His prediction about a possible election boycott by Amaechi is an allegation, and no evidence was provided to show that the ADC candidate has plans to call for such a move.
