The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State has commenced preparations for the 2027 general elections, promising an aggressive campaign aimed at defeating the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The Director-General of the PDP Lagos State Governorship Campaign Council, Hakeem Olalemi, disclosed this on Sunday while discussing the party’s preparations for the election in Lagos.
Olalemi said the PDP was approaching the election with seriousness and had carefully selected its candidates for various elective positions.
He said the party would work to secure a majority of seats in the National Assembly and the Lagos State House of Assembly while also campaigning for its governorship candidate, Adedeji Doherty.
According to him, the party is putting together a strategic campaign structure that will reach voters across Lagos and strengthen its presence at the grassroots.
Olalemi said the campaign would be vigorous and focused on mobilising voters in different parts of the state.
He assured PDP members and supporters across the 20 local government areas that the party was building a strong political structure ahead of the election.
The campaign council director-general said the party was prepared to challenge the APC and seek control of the state government.
He added that mobilisation efforts would extend to communities and wards across Lagos as the party works towards a strong performance in the 2027 elections.
Olalemi said the party had been working continuously to prepare its campaign machinery and ensure that its structures were established from the state level down to the grassroots.
Addressing reports that the Lagos PDP might support the APC presidential candidate, he said the state chapter had received no directive from the national leadership to take such a position.
He said the chapter would follow any formal decision eventually communicated by the party’s national chairman or National Working Committee.
Olalemi also said the party remained open to political alliances and coalitions, but noted that any such arrangement would depend on decisions reached by the appropriate party leadership.
He dismissed claims that the PDP governorship candidate was not committed to the Lagos contest, maintaining that the party was focused on the election.
The PDP recently inaugurated its Lagos State governorship campaign council, with Olalemi appointed as its director-general.
He urged party members and supporters to remain committed as preparations and grassroots mobilisation intensify ahead of the 2027 elections.
