Speaking at the team’s inaugural meeting in Abuja on Thursday, he said the initiative was designed to improve coordination, infrastructure communication, political mobilisation and public awareness ahead of the presidential election.

He explained that the team’s responsibilities would extend beyond the Federal Ministry of Works to cover infrastructure projects being implemented by other ministries, departments and agencies.

According to Umahi, this broader approach would provide a comprehensive account of federal infrastructure development across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones.

He said the President’s Senior Special Assistants on Community Engagement for the six zones, who had also been appointed as zonal coordinators, should work closely with other members of the office and its secretary to identify and document relevant projects in their respective areas.

The minister added that the initiative would provide a coordinated framework for communicating infrastructure investments and the achievements of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope administration at zonal, state and national levels.

Umahi clarified that existing publicity activities involving the Ministry of Works and the senior special assistants would continue, while the new office would expand coordination to include projects handled by other government agencies.

He said accurate documentation and effective communication would make information about federal infrastructure investments more accessible to Nigerians.

Describing infrastructure development as a driver of economic growth and national integration, Umahi said investments in roads and other facilities could stimulate economic activity, connect communities, create opportunities and support other sectors.

The minister also discussed the Federal Government’s adoption of continuous reinforced concrete pavement technology for road construction. He said the approach could reduce reliance on imported bitumen while encouraging the use of local resources and expertise.

According to him, the technology could support domestic economic activity, reduce foreign exchange demand linked to imported road construction materials and improve the durability of infrastructure.

Umahi urged members of the campaign office to ensure that information on federal infrastructure projects was accurately compiled and effectively communicated to the public.
