Political analyst and opposition coalition chieftain Salihu Moh. Lukman has disclosed details of consultations among opposition leaders aimed at uniting against President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
In a statement on Wednesday, Lukman said the discussions involved African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain Atiku Abubakar, Allied Peoples Movement (APM) Governor Seyi Makinde, Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) chieftain Peter Obi, Social Democratic Party (SDP) candidate Prince Adewole Adebayo and Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) chieftain Donald Duke.
He said the consultations were intended to establish a framework for opposition cooperation and explore the possibility of presenting a common candidate to challenge Tinubu’s re-election bid.
According to Lukman, the discussions would allow party leaders and presidential candidates to identify shared interests and agree on practical steps towards a common democratic agenda ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He said Nigeria’s challenges required serious engagement across party lines, adding that political leaders should prioritise the country’s future, citizens’ welfare and the credibility of elections over personal interests.
Lukman assured Nigerians that updates on substantive decisions and agreed next steps would be made available as the consultations progressed.
