Plateau Night Attack Leaves 22 Dead

A deadly attack on Kawel village in Mushere District of Bokkos Local Government Area, Plateau State, has claimed 22 lives after armed men stormed the community in the early hours of Sunday.

Health workers, patients, residents and security personnel were among those killed in the assault.

The attackers reportedly invaded the village before dawn, opening fire on residents and targeting homes and public facilities.

A primary healthcare centre was also attacked, where workers and patients receiving treatment lost their lives.

Several others were injured during the incident.
Security forces later moved into the area and engaged the attackers in a gun battle, but the gunmen escaped into nearby forests.

Joint teams have since begun search operations across surrounding communities to track those responsible for the killings.

The incident has left residents in shock, with families preparing for burials as the community mourns.

The violence has also renewed calls for stronger security presence in Bokkos and surrounding areas facing repeated attacks.
