WAEC Warns Schools Over Extortion Of Candidates

The West African Examinations Council has issued a strong warning to school owners, principals, supervisors and invigilators over alleged extortion of candidates writing the West African Senior School Certificate Examination.

The examination body said some officials were demanding illegal “cooperation fees” from students, a practice it described as unacceptable and against its rules.

WAEC said it would not hesitate to sanction any school or examination staff found guilty of exploiting candidates during the ongoing SSCE process across Nigeria.


It also disclosed that 1,959,636 candidates from 24,207 schools are taking part in this year’s examination, while urging strict compliance with its guidelines.
