The Usman Nenadi-led faction of the Labour Party has taken the Independent National Electoral Commission to the Federal High Court in Abuja over what it described as the exclusion of its candidate from the Enugu North senatorial by-election.

The party said the dispute centres on the upcoming poll scheduled for June 20, where it claims its candidate was wrongly left out of the contest list released by the electoral body.
According to the party’s national publicity secretary Ken Asogwa, the seat became vacant following the death of Senator Okey Ezea, who represented Enugu North before his passing in November 2025.
The Labour Party is asking the court to intervene and compel INEC to recognise its candidate for the by-election, insisting the exclusion is unfair and against electoral rules.
