FG Clears Lecturers Five Month Allowance

Federal university lecturers are set to receive a major financial boost after the Federal Government approved the release of funds to settle five months of unpaid Consolidated Academic Tools Allowance.

The directive was issued by Education Minister Dr Tunji Alausa, who instructed vice-chancellors to ensure immediate payment to eligible academic staff across the country.

The payment is part of the agreement reached between the government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities in 2025.

University managements have been directed to clear all outstanding allowances without delay and ensure that the funds reach beneficiaries as quickly as possible.

Institutions that previously used internally generated revenue or other sources to cover the allowance payments have also been asked to reimburse those accounts once the federal allocation is received.

The ministry further directed universities to maintain proper records and follow all financial regulations during the disbursement process.

The development is expected to ease concerns among lecturers and strengthen industrial peace in federal universities.

The allowance supports research, academic publications, internet services and other professional needs, making it a key welfare issue that has featured in discussions between the government and ASUU for many years.
