Turaki PDP Challenges INEC Recognition Of Wike’s Camp

Fresh tension has emerged within the Peoples Democratic Party as the faction led by Tanimu Turaki protested the decision of the Independent National Electoral Commission to hand the party’s candidate nomination upload code to the leadership aligned with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike ahead of the 2027 elections.

The development has further exposed divisions within the opposition party as both camps continue to battle for control.

The PDP leadership headed by Abdulrahman Mohammed described the move as proof of its legitimacy, insisting that INEC’s decision confirmed its status as the recognised leadership.

Party officials maintained that the electoral body had already granted access for uploading candidates and monitored its activities in line with electoral requirements.

However, the Turaki faction dismissed the development as a routine administrative matter.

The group argued that possession of the code would not determine the final outcome, pointing to previous instances in Ekiti and Osun where candidates eventually secured recognition despite earlier disputes.

The faction expressed confidence that its candidates would ultimately emerge under the PDP platform.

Despite the ongoing leadership struggle, both groups remain optimistic about their positions.

While the recognised leadership said the appeals process for candidates would soon be concluded before names are released, the Turaki camp insisted it was focused on a long-term strategy and remained convinced that the party’s internal disputes would eventually be resolved.
