Jonathan Considers 2027 Comback

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has said he will not rush into the 2027 presidential race despite growing calls from youth groups urging him to contest.

Speaking in Abuja, Jonathan said leadership decisions require careful consultations and warned that the presidency should not be treated lightly.

He added that he would listen to different opinions before deciding on his next political move.

The former president also urged young Nigerians to support peaceful and credible elections, saying poor electoral processes discourage competent people from entering politics.

He expressed concern over Nigeria’s low voter turnout and challenged youths to become more active in the democratic process by obtaining voter cards and participating during elections.

His comments came as the Federal High Court in Abuja prepared to hear a suit seeking to stop him from contesting the 2027 election.

The case argues that Jonathan has already completed the constitutional limit for the presidency after finishing the tenure of late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua and later winning the 2011 election.

The plaintiff is asking the court to stop INEC from accepting his name as a candidate.

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Democratic Congress denied reports of any agreement with Jonathan ahead of the election. The party said consultations were still ongoing and insisted no final decision had been made on its presidential ticket.

Party officials also revealed that several top politicians from different parties were showing interest in joining the platform ahead of 2027.
