ADC Is Dead – Akpabio
Senate President Godswill Akpabio stirred reactions on Tuesday after joking that the African Democratic Congress was finished.
He made the remark during plenary at the National Assembly following fresh defections from the party. The comment came as lawmakers continued to switch sides ahead of 2027.
The situation unfolded in Abuja while Akpabio presided over proceedings and read out defection notices.
He spoke shortly after announcing that some senators had left the ADC for other parties. His statement quickly drew attention within the chamber and beyond.
Among those who defected was Victor Umeh, who moved to the Nigeria Democratic Congress.
He blamed internal disputes and ongoing legal battles within the ADC for his decision. Another senator also left for the Labour Party.
The wave of defections points to growing instability within the ADC and shifting alliances in the National Assembly.
Lawmakers are realigning as political activity builds ahead of the next general elections.
