Court Adjourns Adichie Son Inquest
The Lagos State coroner’s court has postponed the inquest into the death of Nkanu Adichie-Esege, son of author Chimamanda Adichie, after parties failed to submit required witness statements ahead of the hearing.
The case came up on Tuesday at the JIC Taylor Courthouse in Igbosere before Magistrate Atinuke Adetunji, where Euracare Multi-Specialist Hospital was expected to open its defence.
The proceedings could not continue due to non-compliance with earlier court directions on document exchange.
During the sitting, the hospital’s lawyer, Taiwo Osipitan (SAN), argued that there was confusion over which party was meant to file first and requested permission to seek an autopsy and access to medical records.
The court rejected the request, noting that the issue of postmortem had already been decided.
The magistrate stressed that the inquest must proceed without further delay and is aimed at establishing facts around the death.
The matter was adjourned to May 5, May 20, and June 3, 2026, for continuation of hearings.
