The disagreement has widened the divide within the opposition party.

The crisis grew after governors aligned with a rival camp insisted the process was flawed and should be reviewed through legal means.

Their group, linked to Tanimu Turaki, argued that the convention producing earlier leaders had already been voided by the court.

They maintained that any fresh move must follow due process.
Tension has lingered for months, with both factions forming parallel structures and holding separate meetings.

While one side pushed ahead with plans for a national convention, the other rejected participation and warned that the exercise could worsen the crisis.

Efforts at reconciliation have slowed as both sides hold firm positions.

Party elders and stakeholders have called for unity, urging leaders to return to dialogue and avoid further division.

They warned that continued infighting could weaken the party ahead of the next general elections.

The upcoming convention is now seen as a key moment that could either resolve the dispute or deepen it further.
