Malami Battles EFCC Over Abuja Home

Former Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, has accused the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission of trying to take over his Abuja residence without proper legal backing.

The dispute centres on a property in Maitama, where enforcement followed an interim forfeiture order.

The issue has now drawn attention as legal proceedings continue in court.

The situation unfolded after the anti-graft agency marked the property as part of steps linked to the forfeiture order.

The commission said the move was a standard process to inform the public of the property’s status.

However, Malami argued that the order did not permit immediate takeover or eviction of occupants.

Malami explained that he has already challenged the forfeiture ruling at the Federal High Court, with a hearing fixed for April 20, 2026.

He maintained that any enforcement action before the court decides the matter goes against legal practice.

He also alleged that officials returned with armed personnel and forced occupants out of the residence.

The former AGF insisted that only court bailiffs have the authority to enforce such orders, warning against actions that could interfere with the judicial process.

He also noted that the timing of the development may raise questions, though he stopped short of making direct claims, urging that the matter be resolved through due process.
