Wike Calls For Unity Amid PDP Crisis

A fresh rift has emerged in the Peoples Democratic Party after the faction led by former Minister of Special Duties Tanimu Turaki rejected a Court of Appeal ruling that nullified the party’s 2025 national convention in Ibadan.

The group has announced plans to challenge the decision at the Supreme Court.

The appellate court in Abuja upheld an earlier judgement of the Federal High Court which barred the Independent National Electoral Commission from recognising the outcome of the convention held between November 15 and 16, 2025.

The court ruled that the party failed to meet legal conditions required before conducting the gathering.

According to the judgement, the party did not properly notify the electoral body about the convention and also failed to conduct valid congresses in several states before organising the exercise.

The court maintained that compliance with the constitution, the Electoral Act and party rules is necessary for such political activities to stand.

The ruling has sparked fresh reactions within the party as the Turaki faction vowed to continue the legal fight.

The group said its lawyers had been directed to file an appeal at the Supreme Court for a final decision on the dispute.

Meanwhile, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike has urged members of the party to seek reconciliation instead of deepening the conflict.

He said the judgement offers an opportunity for the party to resolve its internal disagreements and rebuild unity ahead of future elections.
