Oyo Fixes Date For LG Elections
The Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission has scheduled local government elections across the state for Tuesday, December 29, 2026.
The announcement was made by the commission’s chairman, Babatunde Adeniyi, in a statement issued in Ibadan.
The election will take place in all 33 local government areas of the state.
The exercise was originally planned for January 16, 2027, before the commission decided to change the date.
Officials explained that the adjustment became necessary after the Independent National Electoral Commission moved the presidential and National Assembly elections to January 16, 2027.
The change created a clash with the earlier date fixed for the local polls in Oyo.
The commission said the new schedule will allow better coordination of security, logistics and voter participation.
Campaigns by political parties will end on December 28, 2026, while any rerun election, if required, will hold on January 5, 2027.
