ADC Raises Alarm Over Prosecution Of Top Members

The African Democratic Congress has accused authorities of applying the law unevenly in cases involving two of its prominent members, Abubakar Malami and Nasir El-Rufai.

In a statement on Tuesday, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, said the ADC was closely watching developments and warned that democracy is weakened when prosecutions appear politically driven.

He said while no one is above the law, justice must be applied fairly.
Malami, a former Attorney-General of the Federation, is currently in custody over allegations of money laundering and financial misconduct.

The ADC said both men are entitled to due process and the presumption of innocence, adding that justice must not only be done but must be seen to be done without bias or intimidation.
