A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party led by Abdulrahman has altered its convention timetable amid the deepening leadership dispute within the party.

The camp, backed by Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike, first announced March 28 and 29 before changing the dates to March 29 and 30 within 24 hours.

The decision followed meetings held in Abuja, including a caretaker committee session at the Wuye office of the group’s national secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu.
The party’s publicity secretary said the adjustment was made after reviewing several considerations, though no details were given.

The shift comes days after a Federal High Court in Ibadan nullified the PDP’s November convention, ruling that the party should be run by a caretaker committee for now.
That convention had produced a National Working Committee led by Kabiru Tanimu Turaki.
His camp has since appealed the judgment and sought a stay of execution.
Despite the court ruling, PDP staff and officials of the party’s training institute have publicly pledged loyalty to the Turaki-led leadership.
They insist the Ibadan convention followed the party constitution and electoral law, arguing that internal party matters should not be settled by the courts.
A total of 76 staff members endorsed the position, signalling that the crisis remains far from resolved.
