The United States has confirmed that a small military team has been deployed to Nigeria as part of a joint effort with Abuja to confront terrorism and rising insecurity.

The disclosure was made on Tuesday by the commander of the United States Africa Command, General Dagvin R.M. Anderson, who said both governments agreed on the need for closer military ties to support counter-terrorism operations across Nigeria.

Although details of the deployment were not made public, Anderson described the unit as a limited team offering “unique capabilities” from the United States.
He said the collaboration reflects deeper coordination between the two nations in response to evolving security threats.
This marks the first official confirmation of US troops operating in Nigeria since American airstrikes carried out in December 2025.
Those strikes targeted militant groups following intelligence-gathering flights conducted by US forces in the country.
