PDP BoT Signals Fresh Start

The Peoples Democratic Party has stepped up efforts to resolve its internal troubles as party elders and the national caretaker leadership renewed calls for unity, respect for court decisions and preparations for delayed congresses ahead of a national convention.

The push was reinforced at the 85th meeting of the Board of Trustees held in Abuja.

BoT chairman, Senator Mao Ohuabunwa, said the party had passed through months of tension driven by leadership disputes and court cases but remained standing because of its institutions and loyalty to constitutional order.

He explained that the delay in congresses was intentional, taken to avoid clashes with ongoing legal processes.

“The PDP chose legality over expediency and patience over provocation,” he said.

Ohuabunwa welcomed recent court rulings, including the Federal High Court judgment in Ibadan that affirmed the Abdulrahman-led caretaker committee, urging members to obey the courts and avoid actions that could deepen divisions.

“With the legal fog lifting, the focus must now shift to reconciliation, rebuilding trust and laying the groundwork for orderly congresses and a credible national convention,” he added.

Caretaker Committee chairman, Abdulrahman Mohammed, thanked the BoT and party stakeholders for their backing, describing it as vital to stability.

He said preparations were underway to move forward, disclosing that “Any moment from now, we shall roll out a timetable for activities relating to outstanding congresses in some states, which will usher in a seamless national convention,” while warning the party could not afford to “sleep in our hands.”
