Rivers State has begun early political mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections, with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, saying the state is already leading efforts to back President Bola Tinubu’s re-election.

He spoke in Port Harcourt during the inauguration of senatorial and local government coordinators of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, a pro-Tinubu support group.

Wike said the event marked the start of full political activity in the state, noting that further mobilisation would move down to the ward level.

He insisted that Rivers had taken the lead in showing open support for the President, adding that action mattered more than public statements.

The former Rivers governor questioned the level of support coming from the current state leadership, warning that political loyalty brings reward. He said backing a president required commitment rather than money.

He explained that the mobilisation drive was a coalition effort and thanked the President for backing candidates in the February 21 by-elections in Khana Constituency II and Ahoada West Constituency II.

Other speakers, including Senator George Sekibo and House of Representatives Minority Leader Kingsley Chinda, assured Tinubu of continued support from Rivers, pledging stronger backing than in the 2023 polls.
