Rivers Assembly Pushes Ahead With Fubara Impeachment

The Rivers State House of Assembly says the state chief judge has received the impeachment notice against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Odu, despite a court order restraining any action on the matter.

Lawmakers disclosed that Simeon Amadi, the chief judge of the state, formally acknowledged the notice forwarded to his office as part of the impeachment process initiated by the assembly.
The impeachment move began last week when the lawmakers accused the governor and his deputy of gross misconduct during a plenary session in Port Harcourt.

The charges were read by Major Jack, leader of the assembly, after being signed by 26 members, meeting the constitutional requirement to trigger the process.
