The Federal Government has announced plans to install fire stations in public tertiary institutions across Nigeria to improve safety and emergency response on campuses.

The move targets universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education owned by the government.
The announcement was made in Abuja by the Controller General of the Federal Fire Service, Samuel Adeyemi, during an event marking the promotion of senior officers. He said the project is part of efforts to protect lives, school property, and public investment in education.

The fire stations will be built through collaboration with the Tertiary Education Trust Fund, allowing the facilities to be spread across institutions nationwide. The plan is designed to place fire response units closer to students and staff.
The government is pursuing the initiative to reduce fire outbreaks and delays caused by relying on off-campus responders. Many institutions currently lack fire units, making emergencies harder to control when they occur.

He also urged newly promoted officers to see their advancement as a call to greater responsibility, noting that stronger leadership and discipline would be required as the Service expands its presence in public institutions.
