The Federal High Court in Abuja has approved the temporary forfeiture of 57 properties linked to former Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, following an application by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

The assets are suspected to be proceeds of unlawful activities and are spread across Abuja, Kebbi, Kano, and Kaduna states.
The order was granted on Tuesday by Justice Emeka Nwite after the EFCC filed an ex parte motion through senior lawyer Ekele Iheanacho. The court ruled that the properties should be temporarily taken over by the Federal Government pending further proceedings.

The judge also directed the anti-graft agency to publish the forfeiture order in a national newspaper. This is to allow any individual or organisation claiming interest in the properties to appear before the court within 14 days and explain why the assets should not be permanently forfeited.
The case has been adjourned to January 27 for the EFCC to report back to the court on its compliance with the publication order. Until then, the properties remain under interim forfeiture.

Court documents show that the seized assets include luxury homes, hotels, shops, warehouses, and plots of land. Many of the properties are located in high-value areas such as Maitama, Asokoro, Wuse, Jabi, and Garki in Abuja, as well as prime locations in Kano and Kebbi.
The EFCC says the move is part of its wider effort to recover assets believed to have been acquired through illicit means. The investigation remains ongoing as the court process continues.
