Nigerian Army troops have stopped a planned bandit attack on communities in Plateau State, killing five suspected attackers and seizing weapons during a security operation.

The action took place in the early hours of January 1 along the Dutsen Zaki–Odare forest axis in Wase Local Government Area. Soldiers acted under Joint Task Force Operation Enduring Peace during ongoing security patrols in the area.

The troops moved in after receiving intelligence that armed bandits were gathering in the forest to launch attacks on nearby villages. An ambush was set up along the suspected route.
When the troops engaged the group, a gun battle followed. Five of the attackers were killed, while others escaped into the forest during the clash.

After the operation, soldiers recovered two AK-47 magazines loaded with 11 rounds of ammunition, along with two machetes and a knife. Troops have continued searching the area to track down those who fled.
The army leadership reassured residents of Plateau State of continued protection and urged the public to share timely information with security forces. The military also warned criminal groups to abandon illegal activities or face firm action.
