The All Progressives Congress says Governor Caleb Mutfwang’s move from the Peoples Democratic Party to the APC does not break the trust of Plateau people.

The party says the decision reflects political reality and growing support for the ruling party in the state.
The defection happened on Friday in Jos, where Mutfwang formally received his APC membership card. His move quickly sparked reactions across the state’s political space, drawing sharp criticism from his former party.

The PDP accused the governor of acting in self-interest and abandoning the mandate given to him by voters. Party leaders said he failed to consult them and claimed his exit undermined the will of the electorate.
The APC rejected those claims, saying the governor did not act alone. The party pointed to the presence of several former PDP leaders, including lawmakers and council chairmen, who moved with him as proof of broad backing.

According to the APC, the governor’s decision followed careful planning and reflected the decline of the PDP in Plateau State. The party said it would have made little sense for him to remain in a party that no longer holds strong support.
The APC added that the governor acted within the law and has the right to choose his political platform. It also dismissed threats from the PDP, insisting the defection strengthens governance and aligns with the wishes of most party supporters in the state.
