The fare reduction takes effect immediately and applies to major train routes operated by the NRC, giving commuters cheaper options to move between cities during the festive period.
The move is part of efforts by the federal government to reduce travel costs as many Nigerians journey to celebrate Christmas and the New Year with family and friends.

Railway officials said the discount is expected to ease the financial burden on travellers who usually face high transport costs during the holidays due to increased demand.
The NRC also hopes the initiative will encourage more people to choose rail transport, reduce pressure on highways, and improve safety during the busy season.
Passengers have welcomed the decision, saying the price cut will make train travel more attractive and accessible at a time when the cost of living remains high across the country.
