Gunmen on Sunday abducted 20 worshippers during a church service at the First Evangelical Church Winning All in Ayetoro Kiri, Kabba Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State.
The attack happened in the middle of worship when armed men stormed the church, fired gunshots, and caused panic among those present.
Witnesses said the assailants arrived suddenly, shot into the air, and forced many worshippers to flee, while others were dragged away through nearby bush paths.
The assault threw the quiet community into chaos as residents ran for safety, with one person identified as Jay Jay reportedly killed during the incident.
The abduction has deepened fears over growing insecurity in rural parts of Kogi, especially following a similar church attack in Okun land weeks earlier, where several worshippers were taken hostage.
After the incident, the chairman of Kabba Bunu Local Government, Zaccheus Dare Michael, blamed the church for holding a service in a tense area and ordered the closure of all markets, while police were yet to issue an official response.
