A Federal Capital Territory High Court has ordered former Labour Minister Chris Ngige to remain at the Kuje Correctional Centre until December 18 over an alleged ₦2.2 billion fraud case.

The order was made on Monday by Justice Maryam Hassan in Abuja after listening to arguments for and against his request for bail.

Ngige is facing an eight-count charge filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission over alleged corrupt practices involving public funds.

His lawyer urged the court to grant bail on health grounds, assuring that the former Anambra governor would not flee or interfere with the trial if released.
The EFCC opposed the request, telling the court that Ngige posed a flight risk and failed to return after being granted administrative bail and permission to travel abroad for medical reasons.
After hearing both sides, the judge adjourned the case to December 18 for a ruling on the bail application, ordering that Ngige remain in custody until then.
