Schools in Burkina Faso are now approved to take part in Nigeria’s National Examinations Council assessments, following a full accreditation process that cleared them to host both the Senior School Certificate Examination and the Basic Education Certificate Examination.

The move came after NECO’s accreditation team visited the schools to check whether they had the facilities and staff needed to run the exams. The team inspected classrooms, laboratories, libraries, computer rooms, workshops, exam halls, sports areas, and security arrangements. They also reviewed how the schools manage continuous assessment records.

The schools were later granted full accreditation after meeting all required standards. NECO said the development shows its growing reach across Africa and its aim to support quality education beyond Nigeria.

The examination body noted that expanding into more countries gives Nigerian students abroad and other learners across the region access to its system. This, it said, would help strengthen education on a wider scale.
NECO has been expanding in recent years. An exam centre was recently opened in London, joining other centres already established in Togo, Benin Republic, Niger Republic, Equatorial Guinea, Côte d’Ivoire, and Saudi Arabia.
With Burkina Faso now included, the council continues to widen its network and position itself as one of Africa’s leading exam providers.
