Tinubu Says Insecurity Is Nigeria’s Biggest Challenge

President Bola Tinubu says insecurity remains the most troubling issue facing Nigeria, especially in the North.

He delivered the message in Kaduna through House of Representatives Speaker Tajudeen Abbas at the 25th anniversary of the Arewa Consultative Forum and the launch of its Endowment Fund.

Tinubu said the situation demands urgent action to rebuild trust, strengthen unity and restore safety in affected communities. He warned that the country cannot make progress if large parts of the North remain unsafe.

He noted that his administration inherited complex security problems but is confronting them with urgency. He said the government is committed to dismantling terrorist and bandit groups and reversing the North’s economic setbacks.

Tinubu expressed confidence in the region’s economic potential and said he looks forward to crude oil production expanding from Kolmani and other northern fields. He added that major projects such as the Abuja–Kaduna–Kano Superhighway are being fast-tracked for commissioning.

The president said the North needs honest and courageous leadership to confront its challenges, warning that the region cannot advance if leaders fail to protect the vulnerable. He said the country fails when people live in fear or go hungry while others look away.

Tinubu said years of dysfunction have strained national unity, but the diversity seen at the ACF event shows a shared resolve to reject division. He praised the forum for 25 years of advocacy, describing its anniversary as a celebration of courage and principled service.

He called on leaders across sectors to recommit to the values that shaped the ACF, saying the stability of the North remains essential to Nigeria’s peace and development.
