Kwara South APC Elders Condemn Eruku Killings

Kwara South APC Elders Forum has condemned the attack on a Christ Apostolic Church in Eruku, describing the killings by bandits as barbaric.

The group reacted in a statement issued by Sir Chief James Bamisaiye Ayeni.

The forum said the latest attack was troubling, adding that communities in Kwara South have faced repeated assaults in recent years. According to the statement, the region has recorded killings, kidnappings, injuries and the destruction of homes, forcing many residents to flee.

Chief Ayeni recalled earlier attacks in Oke-Ode, Babanla and Oreke, where about 15 vigilantes, 12 forest guards and a traditional chief were killed. He also mentioned the abduction and killing of an APC women leader in Koro two years ago.

He noted that the Koro community suffered another tragedy when the traditional ruler, Oba General (Rtd) Olusegun Aremu, was murdered and his wife kidnapped. The forum added that more than 50 travellers had been attacked along the Osi–Obbo Ayegunle road within two years, while Isin and Irepodun areas had also come under attack.

The elders condoled with the Owa of Eruku, Oba Busari Olarewaju, the affected families and the Christ Apostolic Church community.

They commended President Bola Tinubu and Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for deploying security personnel to the Eruku area. The forum also appreciated the president for approving the construction of the long-neglected Ilorin–Kabba expressway, saying it would improve security on the route.

Chief Ayeni praised the state police command, vigilante groups and Eruku youths for their efforts in defending their communities and extended condolences to all traditional rulers and residents of Kwara South.
