The shutdown was introduced to protect students and teachers as security agencies begin a new statewide plan to strengthen school safety. Authorities said the decision was unavoidable in light of escalating risks.

Jibia noted that many students are still writing examinations but explained that safety must come first. He described the closure as a temporary step that will stay in place until a full security review is completed.

The directive comes after the recent abductions of secondary school students in Kebbi and Niger States, events that have created fear across the North-West and pushed leaders to act.

The commissioner said schools will reopen only after thorough assessments of vulnerable areas and once proper safety measures are confirmed. The government assured parents that updates will be provided as the situation evolves.
