During the court session, Agabi informed the judge that Kanu had opted to personally conduct his defence. All the Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SANs) previously on his team also withdrew from further representation, leaving the IPOB leader to take charge of his case.

Confirming the development, Kanu told the court he had chosen to represent himself for the time being, though he may hire new legal counsel later. When asked by the presiding judge if he wanted a lawyer assigned to him, he declined the offer.

Kanu proceeded to argue orally, maintaining that the court lacks the jurisdiction to continue his trial.

The move marks a major twist in Kanu’s long-running case with the federal government, which has seen multiple legal and procedural battles over his detention and prosecution.

Further updates on the proceedings are expected as the court resumes sitting.
