NDLEA Launches Online System For Drug Test And visa Clearance

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has introduced a new digital platform to simplify the process of obtaining its drug integrity test and visa clearance certificates.

The system is designed to eliminate manual procedures, reduce delays, and strengthen Nigeria’s efforts against substance abuse and drug trafficking.

The initiative, known as the Drug Integrity Test and Visa E-Administration System (DITViCAS), was unveiled in Abuja by NDLEA Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Brigadier-General Mohammed Buba Marwa (rtd). Represented by the agency’s secretary, Shadrach Haruna, Marwa described the innovation as a major step toward efficiency, transparency, and public convenience.

For years, the NDLEA visa clearance process required physical documentation and long verification cycles, often leading to bottlenecks and human interference. The new online system now allows applicants to register, book appointments, and obtain test results digitally. The process can be completed within three days—or up to a week in special cases.

According to Marwa, private medical centres can partner with the agency as accredited testing facilities, further expanding access across the country. The system also introduces e-certification and verification features to prevent forgery and ensure authenticity.

The NDLEA boss said the platform would also be used by schools, employers, parents, and couples who wish to conduct drug integrity tests. He stressed that the purpose is not punishment but prevention—helping to identify individuals at risk and offering them rehabilitation and counselling instead of stigma.

Marwa explained that the digital platform integrates advanced background checks to ensure that drug and visa clearance certificates remain credible and secure, protecting Nigeria’s image internationally.

He added that the move aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and the agency’s ongoing reforms to make its operations modern, technology-driven, and people-focused.

Marwa called on Nigerians and institutions to adopt the new system, noting that the success of the digitization drive depends on the collective effort of all stakeholders.
