The family of former Vice Chancellor of Wesley University, Ondo Town, Prof. Olu Aderounmu, has dismissed allegations that he illegally sold ancestral land in Oba Ile, Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State.

Some members of the Sao Family had earlier accused the professor of selling parcels of land worth over N200 million, insisting he was not a biological member of the family and lacked the authority to dispose of the property.

In a statement signed by High Chief Tunde Afare Faloye, Chief Olusola Aderounmu, Chief Abayomi Faloye, and Elder Igbekele Fabilola, the group warned buyers that the sales were “illegal, null, and void,” stressing that anyone developing such land was doing so at their own risk.

But in a counter-statement issued on Sunday by Mr. Gabriel Ogundari, the Sao Family defended Prof. Aderounmu, stating that the land in question belongs to his maternal lineage.

“The allegations of land grabbing and sales worth N200 million are baseless and a gross misrepresentation of facts,” the family said, accusing a faction of hijacking the family’s affairs through a “so-called land committee” used to illegally seize lands from other descendants.
They added that both the High Court and Court of Appeal (Suit AK/144/2016 and CA/AK/66/2020) had issued rulings in favour of the professor’s maternal Ogundari stock, restraining certain chiefs from selling off ancestral property.
According to the family, Prof. Aderounmu remains a legitimate member of the Sao Family through his maternal line, with court judgments backing his claim.
They urged the public to be cautious about the allegations, calling on authorities to investigate the matter and ensure the rule of law is upheld.
“The rule of law must be enforced, and those responsible for these illegal actions must be held accountable,” the statement concluded.
