Rivers State governor Siminalayi Fubara says he came under pressure to challenge the constitutionality of the state of emergency imposed on the state but chose not to, in order to protect peace and stability.

In a statewide broadcast on Friday after resuming duty in Port Harcourt, Fubara said he decided to cooperate with President Bola Tinubu and the National Assembly rather than oppose the suspension of democratic institutions for six months.

He noted that the period was challenging but insisted no sacrifice was too great to restore order. The governor expressed gratitude to Tinubu, the National Assembly, FCT minister Nyesom Wike, and other stakeholders who helped broker peace.

Fubara said all political actors in the state, including himself, Wike and the State House of Assembly, had agreed to put differences aside. He pledged to work harmoniously with the legislature to recover lost grounds and push economic and social development.
The governor also thanked Rivers people for their patience during the emergency period and urged them to support reconciliation efforts. He reaffirmed loyalty to President Tinubu, describing his role in resolving the crisis as “fatherly and decisive.”
Fubara said his administration would now focus on completing projects in infrastructure, education, health and other key sectors, promising to carry everyone along. He called on all residents, regardless of political or religious differences, to join hands in rebuilding Rivers.
