Anambra APC Candidate Blocked At Abuja Hotel Over Alleged N1billion Debt

Guests at Transcorp Hilton in Abuja witnessed a dramatic scene over the weekend when Anambra APC governorship candidate, Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu, was confronted by angry creditors accusing him of owing N1 billion.

Ukachukwu arrived at the hotel with his wife and son but was stopped at the entrance by officials of Zoe New Dawn Nigeria Ltd. The company claimed to have made multiple payments to Chupi Company Limited, a firm linked to the APC candidate.

Videos from the incident show the group surrounding Ukachukwu and preventing him from entering his car. They insisted he must address them over the debt, while he maintained he did not know them. The standoff grew heated, with some calling him unfit to run for office while owing such a large amount.

Security at the hotel tried to calm the situation, but the creditors refused to back down. The confrontation became tense as one of them attempted to push Ukachukwu away from his car. Police officers stepped in to disperse the crowd, allowing him and his family to leave.

Receipts and bank documents seen by reporters show that Zoe New Dawn Nigeria Ltd made several large payments to Chupi Company Limited between August and September 2022. These included multiple transfers of N100 million each on August 23, as well as Zenith Bank cheques and teller payments of N50 million on August 31 and September 1.

The company described the transactions as payments for Goodhomes Property in Lugbe, Abuja. Despite this, the creditors claim the money has not been accounted for and insist Ukachukwu must settle the debt.

Attempts to reach him or his campaign team for comment were unsuccessful.

Ukachukwu, a businessman who later moved into politics, is one of the aspirants seeking to contest the Anambra governorship election under the All Progressives Congress.
