Former Kano State Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso has accused the federal government of unfairly channelling national resources to a single region while ignoring others.

Speaking at the Kano State Stakeholders’ Dialogue on the 2025 constitutional amendment, the 2023 NNPP presidential candidate said that mismanagement at all levels of government has worsened poverty and insecurity, particularly in the North.

Kwankwaso claimed some lawmakers have been “compromised” through bribes from the wealthy, leading to an uneven distribution of national resources. He said this has tilted power and budgetary allocation away from the interests of their constituents.

He also criticised what he called a “lopsided allocation” of the national budget, saying much of the funds appear to be concentrated in one region. Kwankwaso gave a personal example, describing a recent road trip from Abuja to Kano. He said the poor state of the highway highlighted the neglect of infrastructure in the North.
“We support development in all regions,” he said. “But when resources are focused only on one area, and others are left behind, it is not the right thing to do.”
He urged lawmakers to defend the interests of their people when voting on the upcoming constitutional amendment, and called on the federal government to act in a way that reassures Nigerians of fair treatment across all regions.
